When our Compass shifts

Black Summer’s climate-led fires unleashed an epic scale of destruction with reverberating impacts felt throughout Eurobodalla – Yuin country, and across Australia.

But just as climate chaos crashed through into our physical worlds, into our homes and neighbourhoods, other large internal changes were set in motion within our lives. What we value and how we choose to live our lives, and what’s important – have all emerged as guiding questions for many of us in our Eurobodalla community.

Here’s North Rosedale resident Jack Egan’s video story ‘Why I quit my job after my home burned down’ – which maps a huge swing of the compass. Produced and shared around the world by the BBC on 8 January, 2021.

Now over two years on since the fires, Jack continues to work for fast and effective climate action, sharing the the ways we can head our climate into a much safer and productive direction. Jack is now the Co-ordinator of 350 Eurobodalla picking up the baton from Allan Rees – who worked tirelessly in the role for 6 years.

Jack convened the very successful Climate Solutions 4 Eurobodalla in 2021 and joined Bushfire Survivors for Climate Action soon after the fires. Jack loves getting in the ocean, is passionate about local solutions and is rebuilding his house with his partner Cath.

We have a precious and urgent opportunity to head our responses to climate in a safer direction. Our local biodiversity, economy & health depend on it.
